About This Work
On November 5, 2025, a teaser PV and teaser visual were released. The film premiered exclusively on Netflix on January 22, 2026.
On February 20, 2026, it had a limited theatrical release in Japan, initially scheduled for one week but later extended. A nationwide release in Japan followed on March 13, 2026.
The film is directed by Seigo Yamashita, with a screenplay by Saeri Natsuki and Seigo Yamashita.
The story is connected to The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter and Princess Kaguya.
The songs for the film were provided by multiple VOCALOID producers.

Synopsis
A virtual space where dreams and hopes converge, "Tsukuyomi"[1]. The meeting of two girls, and the stage set for their farewell—now begins.
In the near future. Iroha Sakayori, a 17-year-old high school girl attending a college-prep school in Tokyo, lives a super busy life juggling part-time jobs and her studies. Her daily solace is watching the streams of Yachiyo Runami, the administrator of the virtual space "Tsukuyomi" and a super popular streamer. In "Tsukuyomi," where anyone can create their own avatar and freely engage in creative activities, Iroha cheers for Yachiyo while earning a little pocket money from competitive games.
Then, one day on her way home, Iroha discovers a lamppost glowing with a shimmering rainbow light. Inside it, there's an incredibly cute baby. Unable to leave her be, Iroha takes the baby home, and the baby rapidly grows into a girl about Iroha's age. "You... could you be Princess Kaguya?"
The grown-up Kaguya is incredibly willful. At Kaguya's request (read: whim), Iroha decides to help her with streaming activities in Tsukuyomi. Iroha produces music as a composer, while Kaguya streams as a singer, and little by little, the two open their hearts to each other. Unbeknownst to them, an ominous shadow is already closing in, intent on taking Kaguya back to the moon—
This is a "Princess Kaguya" story like you've never seen before.
